Rain disrupts normal life in Chennai
Chennai, Jan. 04 Normal life in the city was today affected following heavy rains and gusty winds since last night, under the influence of a new trough of low pressure over the Southwest Bay off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast. There seems to be no let up from the weather woes with the weathermen predicting more rains or thundershowers in the city and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours.

Fishermen were warned not to venture into deep sea due to trough condition in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast.

''''Strong onshore winds from Northeasterly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45-55 KMPH were likely along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast,'''' Met officials said.

Nungambakkam received two cm of rainfall and Meenambakkam three cm during the last 24 hours. However, in 2007, the city had received 15 per cent deficit rainfall.
